Just popping in to say hello and I'm glad to hear you're back in the water. I'll be saying prayers that you get stronger every day & can make a go of it next week. If you're going to be back in Colo Springs, let me know! It's only about 45 minutes down the road from here & I'd love to come see you & if I can help, let me know that too! Send me an email if you're coming this way again! Gail Hanson Nguyen <gailn2061@earthlink.net> Highlands Ranch, CO - Thursday, July 3, 2008 9:53 AM CDT Sweet Marin! How's stuff? It has been very busy here in the last week. We've had swim meets, sleepovers, movie day with the Waves, birthday parties, more swim meets, more sleepovers and I'm about to have a 13 year old in the house. Do you remember turning 13? I'll bet your mom and sis are having a grand time on their road trip. I'd love to do that. Have you been getting any pool time in with your dad and brother? We've been TiVoing the swim trials. Wow they are fast. Can't wait to hear about you in the pool. What else have you been up too? Mrs. Karlins Suwanee, GA USA, USA, USA! - Wednesday, July 2, 2008 2:58 PM CDT Hi! I came across your page when reading an article written by a college friend of mine, Mark Henderson. I navigated to this page and saw that you live in Sammammish! I teach 3rd grade at Grand Ridge Elementary. Your courage is so inspiring. I wish you luck and will continue to follow your updates. I was a diver myself, but trained with swimmers and love the sport. Good luck to you and take care! Jennie Doyle Perry <jenniferdoyle5@hotmail.com> Seattle, WA USA - Tuesday, July 1, 2008 11:14 PM CDT Just sending you a hello Marin and we are thinking of you. August beat her best crawl stroke time by 7 seconds and was very excited about that. She wanted me to tell you :) Nancy, so excited for you! What a fun trip and good mother daughter time. It reminds me of Tim and my drive home from NJ/NY when we moved back to Seattle. Enjoy every minute and keep the tank full :) Miss ya!-Linds Lindsey Cooke Bellevue, WA USA - Sunday, June 29, 2008 0:22 AM CDT HEY MARIN! 18 is a big one! Happy birthday! It has been a minute since I have sent you a message. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers! Keep swimming hard! I am so proud of you, buddy. Coach Vic (from GA Zone Team 2004) <vmoore0704@yahoo.com> Alpharetta, GA USA - Friday, June 27, 2008 12:14 AM CDT Dudes and dudettes. Glad the driveway birthday tradition continues. Sounds like more and more pool time every day. That's good. Our, now, young woman dolphin needs that pool time. I always picture it like Daryl Hannah in Splash, she just has to get back in the water regularly for good health. Marin is cuter than Daryl being the main difference. Here's today's: THE JOKE OF THE DAY Are you kidding? Reaching the end of a job interview, the Human Resources Person asked a young Engineer fresh out of MIT, "And what starting salary were you looking for?" The Engineer said, "In the neighborhood of $125,000 a year, depending on the benefits package." The interviewer said, "Well, what would you say to a package of 5 weeks vacation, 14 paid holidays, full medical and dental, a company matching retirement fund for 50% of your salary, and a company car leased every 2 years -- say, a red Corvette?" The Engineer sat up straight and said, "Wow! Are you kidding?" And the interviewer replied, "Yeah, but you started it." that was short so here's another A game of baseball St. Peter and Satan were having an argument one day about baseball. Satan proposed a game to be played on neutral grounds between a select team from the heavenly host and his own hand-picked boys. "Very well," said the gatekeeper of Heaven. "But you realize, I hope, that we've got all the good players and the best coaches." "I know, and that's all right," Satan answered unperturbed. "We've got all the umpires." The second one's for Matt, the sports guy. And I am not so sure that these days Heaven has all the best players and coaches??? Man is summer short or what? What happened to 3 months for summer. By the time Divette and I get done with our different lil educational ventures we're gonna have about 3 whole weeks off. Bummer, maybe next year we won't sign up for anything. You guys keep up the good work. Matthew <mattbeck@waveofcourage.org> Suwanee, - Friday, June 27, 2008 9:47 AM CDT Marin and family, you continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. Love, the Sieron's robyn sieron Jacksonville, FL - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 7:53 AM CDT So here are a few funny things for all the Morrisons to giggle at: #1 Katie is having a tantrum at the computer because her online driver's education course just gave her a message that she is taking the class too fast to get her 30 hours of credit. And "it just isn't fair to people who read fast" -- so to take up more time she keeps getting up and admiring herself in her new bikini in the bathroom mirror. Who takes driver's ed in a bikini? #2 I just got an email for a tribute page for someone whose dog died -- it's kind of like Caringbridge for pets -- well, I guess that's more strange than funny. #3 Will is moaning on the coach -- he got braces today and you would think he had had a limb removed -- apparently he didn't moan at all while at his friend's house playing Wii!! The funny part is that he can't quite figure out how to close his mouth and he perpetually looks like he's getting ready to pucker up and kiss somebody! Well - I'm done embarrassing my kids for now! Hope you guys are enjoying summer and that Marin has felt better and stronger every day this week! When I stepped out onto the deck, I knew why I had come. Marin was back at the pool! Sitting on the bench that has been waiting for her to return. I had tears in my eyes as I prepared for my swim. I swam with a huge smile on my face and lost track of my laps more than once. Words can not describe the joy I felt when I saw you sitting on that bench again today Marin. You have no idea how you have inspired me, and you do not even know me. That is a true gift. Each morning I check your website to see how you are doing, and each day I look at the bench and wonder when you will be back. Today was the day...you are truly amazing! How many of these graduating former classmates have or ever will see the pyramids? Or go to China or compete in an Olympics? How many have or ever will have gone to the many wonderful places that you and your family have gone to? So many students graduate in the'normal' way at school, but so many also drop out or chose to get their GED and start working, are homeschooled, or attend Running Start. Nowadays there is no normal. How many students are from broken homes and don't live with either their mom or their dad but live on the streets, no friends or family. There is no denying you have had many challenges in your life, but you also have so many blessings, a wonderful loving immediate and extended family. An incredible talent that shines through all the adversity you have endured. Many friends around the world who love and support you in so many ways, including prayer. You have an amazing smile and the ability to chose how you will face each day and you have and continue to do so wth such grace, inspiring so many people from every corner of the earth. How many more will you touch with your spirit in Bejing? We will soon find out. Continue to fight the good fight. You are an incredible child of God. Jaapje - King Aquatic Club Auburn, WA USA - Friday, June 13, 2008 10:10 PM CDT Joys and sorrows mixed seem to be a theme in Marin's life, doesn't it? I'm so sorry with you that it just can't be "normal", with high school graduation celebrations and all. I'm offering a prayer that the "little" "graduations" (like from radiation) can be an Occasion! Hurray, it's over. I'm glad these last few weeks are behind you all. Onward....to...NOT the sidelines in the Olympics! Love, Beth beth Kenmore, wa usa - Friday, June 13, 2008 8:23 PM CDT Enjoyed the update, I was wondering how things were going. Always praying for you all and sending you love. Also praying for the whole family right now with all the hoopla of June Graduations. I can see how that would be bitter sweet for everyone. Nancy, wanted you to know I did try calling the John Bastyr School a few times and had a hard time finding the right connection. With all you've been going through the past few months I figured you guys had your hands full as it was. But, just wanted you to know I didn't forget. Also last week Tim and I took the kids to the club and had our own little practice races to help August learn more about the starting blocks. Hope everything is calm now that you are back home -- no more emergency room trips!! Katie is racing her first Olympic distance triathlon this weekend -- a mile swim, a 24 mile bike, and a 10k run. Her training plan has been intense and I've never seen her take so many naps, but she feels like she's ready. I'm not so sure I'm ready and I imagine I'll be a pacing, nervous wreck until she crosses the finish line safely. Hey can you say "ring tone"? ha You are one tough gal Marin Morrison and I know without a doubt that if your decision is to do the radiation again, you will get through it with all the strength and determination you have become famous for. yea...famous. :-) So, if its just the dread of how lousy it makes you feel and the wacky hair doo you end up with, just know that if it doesn't help, you'll eventually feel better than you did during radiation and if it works, you'll feel better than you do right now with all the dizziness and nausea. It would be most helpful to get that to go away. You have some goals to take care of. Whatever you decide, we love you. Be strong. Now go eat something. We've been gone for a few days - up at Snoqualmie Pass. NOT timed well, because we missed the sunshine "down here" (which doesn't happen so often!!). But...it was nice, Bekah had several friends up to a rented cabin and we enjoyed the last of the snow-scenery. I'm sorry you have to go through radiaion, again, Marin. I'm hoping you won't need hats...because you'll feel good enough to have your swim cap on and be in the pool so often! Looks like you'll be going home before I get a chance to get in there. No wonder she springs to life in the pool-she's truly a fish out of water without it!!! I just read the Seattle Times article posted on your site. And seriously Marin--it is amazing your drive and determination to not look at these obstacles as stumbling blocks (as most of us would!), but instead as just another hurdle you have to get yourself over. Have fun with facebook.com--it is truly addicting! Hopefully Aaron Piersol & your other swim heroes will "friend" you back. Something tells me that they may look at you as one of THEIR swim heroes. :) Julie Granger DuluthGA/HoustonTX, GA USA - Sunday, May 25, 2008 12:57 AM CDT I'm having a "small world" moment -- looking through guest book entries and seeing the post from the Tindoll family about Russell. Katie races with Kat on the SportFactory triathlon team. I had been toying with the idea of trying to hook you guys up and it seems you already know each other! Russell seems to have the same deep determination as Marin to return to his sport (cycling)and I bet Marin's success in the Paralympics will really be meaningful to him. Meanwhile, our prayers for Marin have been as constant as ever even though the last week of school seemed like a large blur of whirlwind activity. Like everyone else, we will focus on the upcoming radiation treatment and pray that it offers Marin the absolute best chance for arriving in Bejing feeling strong and healthy. I've followed Marin's journal and now have a new one of our own. Our son Russell was diagnosed with brain cancer in April. He has completed surgery and one extended round of Chemo. I want you to know that as difficult as this is for me and the family, I've learned a lot from your family. You think you can cry all the tears out but not so, what has help is having a strong determined kid just like yours and understanding and seeing the strength and determination of your family. Marin will realize her dream and we look forward to reading about it. Our prayers join with yours. Kat and Mike Mike Tindol <mtindol@allgoodpestsolutions.com> Suwanee, GA US - Friday, May 23, 2008 2:55 PM CDT Hi Morrisons, I continue to check on you daily and pray for more pool time and less dizziness. Jeanette E. - Friday, May 23, 2008 7:23 AM CDT Dear Morrisons - Some things in life I feel we are truly destined for. Somehow, I was destined to become part of your prayer coalition and one of the people who regard your progress as those of a family member. I really feel my connection to the Morrisons has helped me keep perspective on what matters most in life. I also feel that Marin is destined to find comfort, solace, and success in the water. I continue to pray but somehow I believe the grand plan has already been laid out and it contains you in Bejing. We all will keep praying and I know you all will keep working :) Love, Mary Helen Mary Helen Jackson <chasuser@comcast.net> Alpharetta, GA USA - Friday, May 23, 2008 6:01 AM CDT I am so excited to hear that you are back in the pool Marin. Keep the faith and soon you will be swimming at those Olympics. You inspire me and I am so proud to call you a friend, Lynette lynette Huffman Johnson <lynette@lynettejohnson.com> seattle, wa usa - Friday, May 23, 2008 0:44 AM CDT Hoping you get home soon, Marin! Good luck with the radiation question. AJ had it (hyperfractionated; twice/daily for 5 1/2 weeks) and it was very rough. But we did not have a choice. Glad you're looking into everything. Chris Owens - Thursday, May 22, 2008 2:51 PM CDT Hi Marin and Nancy-You are in my thoughts and prayers every single day-numerous times, actually. I hope you have a very good day today, Marin. Your fighting spirit is amazing to say the least. I share your story with my family and many others day after day. When I start complaining, I think of you, and Nancy, of course, you, too, because I'm a mom and my heart aches that you are "living" your child going through all of this cancer mess. Hang on to the Lord with all your might. He truly is the only way to survive. love, cindy cole <cole2424@cox.net> baton rouge, la us - Thursday, May 22, 2008 11:28 AM CDT Love and hugs to you all! My family and I are still praying really hard! Kathy Parete <khparete@aol.com> Jacksonville, FL - Thursday, May 22, 2008 10:17 AM CDT Just sitting here getting those last few "teacher" things out of the way. Fending off parents who all of a sudden realize lil Joey is not going to make it thru Physics and wondering what he can do to pass. Too little, too late! If I, with my limited experience in the classroom, years of moderately successful parenting, and lots of reading on the subject had to come up with one thing to fix education it would have to be responsible, involved parents. I could use the Morrisons as great examples of how to do that, and what the results can be. We out here are all thrilled to have you as examples of what good people can do and how they should behave. Especially you Marin, it is you who always offer comfort to your family when most of us would think you are the one who needs it. You are an amazing woman (your almost 18, I am going to have to call you woman instead of young lady, besides most women and men do not have half the maturity and drive you exhibit)! We are crossing our fingers, toes, and eyes trying to send enough good vibes to Seattle to get you ready for Beijing. Hang in there, and keep up the good fight! Matthew <mattbeck@waveofcourage.org> Suwanee, - Thursday, May 22, 2008 7:52 AM CDT Nancy, So great to read your update on Marin. I've been thinking of you guys a lot. Especially this week as August started her first swim team experience. Had some great points and hard points, I wished she could talk to Marin about it as I'm sure she'd have some great advice for August. She wrote about it in her Kindergarden journal and at the end of her writing added more about Marin and how she is made the Beijing Team. She picked out a little Beijing Bound Panda cap for herself...not knowing what it meant. But Each time I see it I think of Marin and send a prayer her way. God Bless-Love, Lindsey ps. forgot to mention that she asked if Marin could come to her class some time. :) Lindsey <lindsey@tlcooke.com> bellevue, Wa USA - Thursday, May 22, 2008 2:16 AM CDT Hi family, I am so happy she was able to get in the water. One step at a time. I noticed when I visited her last week that a sign said therapy pool and I wondered if that would be a possiblity.I can imagine her smile. Good luck on the radation choices, if it stops her dizziness that would be a blessing. she would be tired but knowing Marin she could work thru that part and still swim at least with out nausea and by the olympics the tiredness would be getting better. looking forward to when we can kidnap her to the movies we have a date to go to maid of honor together. All our love and prayers. I pray for healing, strength and peace in all you do and face. anita <anita2142@yahoo.com> seattle, wa usa - Wednesday, May 21, 2008 9:18 PM CDT Hi, Morrisons. There are so many challenges to walk through every day. Or, rather, swim through. Makes me smile to know Marin's been in the pool! There is so much wisdom needed. I hope that Rescue Sleep is working so you can rest enough to be able to think straight. :0 So many people, world-wide, who have been encouraged by your perseverance. So many people praying that God will heal your brain, Marin. Meanwhile, swim as you can. I'm praying that the God who is orchestrating this whole concert of effort on your behalf will whisper in your heart so that you know Him and his comfort....supernaturally. Love, and prayer. I hope your daughter gets better. I hope she does great in China. I know the doctor will get Marin back to a healthy state. I have a ten year old daughter who started swimming for the Richland Waves and your daughter has inspired us both with this sport thank you! Marilyn Goss <marigoss@yahoo.com> suwanee, ga usa - Wednesday, May 21, 2008 7:39 PM CDT Hi, I am busy thinking of all of you and praying for all of you every day. I know from experience how tired radiation makes you. I cannot even believe how tired I was. I hope the right decision is made and that Jesus will guide the doctors to make the right one. I also know about the leg braces from being in the hospital in March. I sure didn't like them, either. My room was so hot at night, and they were plastic, my mattress was plastic, and yes, I had to wear depends and they were plastic. I felt like I was going to bake to death and be surrounded by plastic while doing so. I hope things start to get turned around and so your days can be brighter. How about trying to eat food you like and see if that helps with the eating. Our love to all of you. Gina Wills Jacksonville, FL USA - Wednesday, May 21, 2008 5:43 PM CDT Marin and family, I'm not sure if you want to share your story again - online - but CNN has invited "i reporters" to tell a bit of their stories about living with brain cancer. The brief stories are posted on the CNN website. This is related to Senator Kennedy's recent diagnosis. I've always wanted to be an "i-reporter" so I posted my short audio report:) In any case, I continue to check in every day to see how all of you are doing. I continue to pray for each of you and continue to thank God that He has surrounded you with a "global" support team. God bless you all! Love in Christ, Bob PS. KEEP PADDLING MARIN! Bob Bavis <rbavis@cnw.com> Mount Vernon, WA USA - Wednesday, May 21, 2008 5:40 PM CDT We all need inspiration in our lives. For the lucky ones that inspiration comes from a person or people close to us. As we grow older we take inspiration from our mother or father, a teacher, a coach or close friend. Not everyone is blessed to have someone in their life to inspire them to achieve their dreams. Then a young gal like you comes along. Your inspiration is infectious. Simply reading your story or seeing you swim gives inspiration and guidance. You may not understand the strength or depth of your inspiration to others but rest assured you have changed the lives of an unimaginable number of people for the better. It pains me to hear and read about your suffering. I long for the day you are back in the pool with Coach Hay pushing you to new heights. For now, know that the inspiration and hope that you give others is reflected back on you. Soak it in to build your strength you will need it in Beijing! Altough so many of us tell you that, I am sure you'd rather be just an "ordinary" girl and not have all of this stuff to deal with. But from what I have heard, you have never been ordinary. Robyn Sieron Jacksonville, FLr - Sunday, May 18, 2008 10:51 AM CDT Sweet Marin, Hey there. We are almost finished with the school year here. Wednesday is the day. I think most all of us are ready for a change in routine. The Waves team have had a strong start. They've been swimming for a week now and the weather has been decent. It will warm to the 80's here next week. Hot'lanta. Congrats on your progress into the rehab area. Show 'em how it's done Super Marin. No personal experience but I'm thinking the feeding tube sounds like a good idea for a while. I'd love to know you are feeding those muscles you are going to need. So sounds like the mystery may be solved with the nausea. It might not be the best news but knowing what's going on is the path to solving the problem. You've gotta be a little glad you know what was causing the dizzies. I know you all will figure out what to do together. And Marin, you are always willing to do everything and more to get through it all stronger and healthier. My grandfather used to say, "A smile will take you a mile." You put that into practice every day. Keep up the hard work. Of course you know we keep you all in our hearts every day. Sunshine = Vitamin D = Cancer fighter. Get to that patio girl. We love you--all. Mrs. Karlins Suwanee, GA USA, USA, USA! - Sunday, May 18, 2008 9:11 AM CDT We are sending you "get well" prayers from Suwanee!! Hang in there Marin and trust your doctors to get you to China!! You will be there!! The rutledge's Melissa Rutledge <Supermom9520@aol.com> Suwanee, ga usa - Sunday, May 18, 2008 8:37 AM CDT I'm sorry to hear of the MRI results and the possibility of radiation. That's a rough road . . . I know. But anything to kill the cancer is a necessity. Am glad everyone is thinking of everything on the food/nutrition issue including swimming and Bejing. I hope Marin got to enjoy some nice outdoor weather yesterday and there is some R&R this Sunday. Chris Owens, mom of AJ, almost 17, medulloblastoma dx 1/02 Lawrenceville, GA - Sunday, May 18, 2008 8:28 AM CDT Hey Morrisons, When I read that a button is being considered I have to admit to thinking, "Well that's one way around having to taste the puna nonni juice." The toughest part of the feeding tube concern seems most often to be the process of deciding whether to place it or not. Please feel free to call or email me if you have questions about mickies. As always...sending a bunch of hugs! Robin <bander23@bellsouth.net> Suwanee, GA - Sunday, May 18, 2008 7:46 AM CDT Tyler had a g-tube for three years! In the beginning it is a bit long and could be a bit bothersome, but they shorten it down to a 'button' within weeks and it never gave Tyler any problems. We could do night feeds and he ate like normal in the daytime. We did have to take it easy and slow with the feeds so it wouldn't upset his stomach (he's very quick to get nauseated and is one of the pukiest kids around though). But I have got to say that it was a huge plus for his situation. (Relapsed Ewing's sarcoma on maintenance chemo for over two years- now off treatment) Tyler did everything he wanted to do including going swimming in pools and the ocean. They did tell him not to swim in lakes etc... due to the risk of infection but I will tell you that Tyler is not always a rule follower. We were very careful to keep it clean and he rarely had issues with the tissue around the tube. That being said, I know that other kids have had issues with infection etc... and so it is all individual on your experience with a g tube. I hope this helps in some small way. (We've never met and I can't even remember how I was led to Marin's site but we check in almost every day and continue to pray for Marin's good health and healing all the time.) Connie Copley <tcopley@bellsouth.net> Powder Springs, GA - Sunday, May 18, 2008 6:42 AM CDT You already know I'm a big fan of feeding tubes, but then again I never treated a superstar going to the Olympics so I never had to consider pool time! I'm off the Gainesville with Will for a soccer tournament -- not looking forward to waking him up this early and not a lot of time to write here when I'd really like to say something helpful. So I'll just say what's in my heart -- which is that Marin and her family will deal with this the way you guys always do. With a lot of strength, grace, and determination. And we'll all be praying you through it the best way we know how. Love and prayers, Whitney Whitney June <wljune@bellsouth.net> Roswell, GA USA - Sunday, May 18, 2008 5:19 AM CDT Hey Marin - Sorry to hear about your hurdle.
